San Antonio
*Click on the pictures for a better look
I know it has taken for over a week to get this post together. I think I’m just now fully recovered from vacation. My husband likes to beat us down when we are on vacation. He is always the first one awake and the first one ready to walk out the door. While the rest of use are still wiping the sleep from our eyes. The entire family was worn out by the time we made it back to Houston. We have a great time and it’s always good to get away from our everyday routine.
Everyone time we go on vacation we always try to do something educational for the kids. For our trip to San Antonio we went to The Alamo and Mission San Jose. I already knew a lot about the Alamo but I had never heard of Mission San Jose. According to our tour guide San Antonio has five missions. While in school I cannot recall ever learning about the other missions, only the Alamo. I have to be honest about the Alamo, I was a little disappointed. It was not as big as I thought it was going to be and it’s in the middle of downtown San Antonio, it seemed like a little bit of history was taken away from it with all of the surrounding buildings and noise. I guess the history books have painted a different picture for me. A little part of me wished it was more the like the pictures in the books, more historic and less modern. I loved Mission San Jose, it was what I thought the Alamo as going to be. It’s the largest of all of the missions and is known as the “Queen of the Missions”. In fact they still hold church services there today, I thought that was amazing. If you ever find yourself in San Antonio, Mission San Jose should be added to your your trip itinerary, so much history, I mean if you like history. If not then just skip the missions and head straight to Six Flags Fiesta Texas.
I’m not posting any pictures of the Alamo. You cannot take pictures inside so all I have are pictures of the outside and I figured everyone already knows what the Alamo looks like. Right?
Here are a few pictures of Mission San Jose.

I grew up in Texas and this was the first time I had ever gone to San Antonio. I have been all over the world but I had not explored what was in my own backyard. My favorite place to visit Historic Market Square. Here you will find Mi Tierra Cafe & Bakery, open 24 hours a day everyday of the year. The bakery counter was probably about 30 feet long filled with tons of Mexican pastries. The place was so busy I was able to get one picture of the baked goods. So busy in fact you have to take a number for service.Market Square is about three blocks long, there is an outdoor stage and a few food stands. There are two buildings that have tons of little shops and more food vendors. They have everything there. Tiles, sinks, margarita glasses, jewelry, and course cowboy hats and the list goes on and on.
Here are my favorite pictures for Historic Market Square.

By the way if you like the collages you can make your own at Photovisi for free. That website was shared by Diane from White on Rice Couple on the new Food Blog Forum. It’s a forum created by a few very well known food bloggers sharing all of there dirty little secrets about food blogging, I love it!

Food Porn Sites
Do you ever browse the food porn sites out there on the world wide web? I can sit for hours looking at all of the tasty pictures. I use the sites to search recipes, to check out food styling and post my pictures. There are a couple of sites that can be a little hard to please but that’s ok because there are plenty that are a more forgiving if your picture isn’t perfect. I thought I would compile a list for you guys. If I miss one let know and I will gladly add it. I’m adding the link and their Twitter handle, if they have one.
